The Holy Family, 27th December 2015

The Feast of the Holy Family
The feast of the Most Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is celebrated on this Sunday.  The Holy Family is seen as the model for the human family, the religious community and the Church itself.

The Coming Week in Our Parish
For the coming week, Monday to Saturday, the Daily Public Mass in our parish will be at 11.00am in St. Patrick’s Church.
There is NO 9.30am or 10.30am.  Please also note that, on account of many being away, there will be NO exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Monday in St. Fiacre’s Church.

Masses For Your Intentions
In the lead up to Christmas many people purchased Christmas Mass cards at the Parish Centre.  All weekday Masses in our parish (with the exception of wedding and funeral Masses) between 26th December and 2nd January inclusive will be offered for these specific intentions.  Those who purchased these cards are invited to make an effort to join in some of these Masses.

Priest on Duty
Although Christmas week is quiet and people (including priests) are spending time with family and friends, there is always a priest on duty in St. Patrick’s.  To contact him at any time, phone the parish number 7764400 and press  2 when prompted.  The system will then put you in touch with one of the priests.

Parish Statistics
Coming to the end of the year, we take a look at  past-events in our parish.  We are delighted to note there were 120 children baptised in our parish this past year.  38 couples were married in our churches and sadly we said goodbye to 52 people.  May God’s blessing be with them all.
We pray that the coming year of 2016 will bring blessings to all of us.

First Friday Visits
Although the first Friday of January is next Friday, 1st (New Year’s Day). The priests of the parish will make their calls on the following Friday, 8th January.

Silence?
In liturgy, silence is not meant to be an embarrassed, barren or uncontrolled lack of sound which occurs because things have broken down, or no one knows what to do next, but a purposeful period where people communicate in a way that is deeper than words.  For this reason we try to develop in the celebration of our Mass a calmness that provides silence after the readings, after the homily or during or after Holy Communion, so that the powerfulness of God's presence may be sensed in the unique experience of people gathered and being still in silence together.  (Fr. Turlough Baxter)
