Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time, 21st June 2015

Fr. Roderick’s Silver Jubilee
Ad multos annos - this is the traditional Latin greeting offered to priests on their jubilee. As we celebrate this achievement at 12.00 noon Mass in St. Fiacre’s Church on this Sunday, we congratulate Fr. Roderick on his 25 years of priesthood and wish him God’s blessing and many more years of service.

Fathers’ Day
Today we remember our fathers - living and dead - and thank God for the blessings He bestows on us through them. Let us honour our fathers in all we say and do.  Happy Fathers’ Day.

Laudato si
Pope Francis issued his first encyclical, Laudato si’: on the care of our common home, during the past week. This is his latest expression of love for humanity, and he is once again urging every Catholic to expand his or her understanding of what it means to love our neighbours. Like previous popes, Francis urges that we protect the Creation that was given to us.  And as we have come to expect, he places emphasis on the poor as those who suffer most - in this case, from the inequality of natural resource exploitation and natural disasters brought on by climate change. To return to caring about the planet, as native people once did, is to practise love fore neighbour on many levels.

St. Columbanus’ 1400th Anniversary
St. Columbanus (aka Columban) was a sixth century Irish monk born around 543.  He became a monk at Bangor, Co. Down and later principal teacher there.  In 591, desiring to ‘go on pilgrimage for Christ’ he set out with twelve companions and came to Burgundy.  He established monasteries at Annegray, Luxeuil and Fontaine.  Later he founded Bregenz in Austria and his greatest foundation at Bobbio, near Genoa, where he died in 615.  He is remembered as one of the greatest Irish missionary monks and is revered across parts of Europe.
The 1400th anniversary of his death is being marked with national celebrations in Bangor and Armagh.

The residents would like more involvement in social activities such as painting, music and crafts. Unfortunately within our current resources we cannot afford to fund this. We are looking for anyone with an interest in any of these areas who may be able to give their time on a voluntary basis, weekly, fortnightly or monthly. The residents enjoy meeting people and are looking forward to taking up some new hobbies. If you would like to visit St Lazerian's House to meet the residents or would like to discuss your interest in supporting us contact Marian Manning on 059 972 1146.
